The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has given all potato producing province the clean bill of health for potato wart.

More than 200 soil samples were tested across the country. This is the second straight year there have been no potato wart cases although Prince Edward Island was not included in the 2022 survey.

Testing for potato wart is done to allay any disease concerns from the United States.

The opening came at the midway point of MacAulay’s trade mission to the two key Indo-Pacific markets of Malaysia and the Philippines.

The office in Manila will work to expand export opportunities and increase the demand for Canadian products.

The Indo-Pacific region currently accounts for over one-third of the world’s economic activity, and in 2023, Canada’s agriculture and agri-food exports to the region reached $22.8 billion.

Saskatchewan’s premier is in India to promote trade even though tensions remain high between that country and Canada.

Scott Moe said he wants to maintain and expand markets that thousands of jobs in his province rely upon.

India was accused last year of being involved in the killing of a Sikh community leader in British Columbia and meddling in Canada’s affairs.

India rejected the allegations and has accused Canada of allowing Sikh separatists to intervene in its own affairs.
