David Peters
May 9, 1927 – February 15, 2024
It is with heavy hearts the family of David Peters announce his passing on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in Rosthern, SK. He was devoted to his faith and family. This was evident through his commitments to the church and the way in which he loved his wife, children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with the love of God. You could never leave without a hug. He loved to share stories of how God worked and moved through his life.
David was born on May 9, 1927 to Cornelius and Susanna Peters, in Aberdeen, SK. He was the 2nd oldest child in a family of seven children. Dave lived on the farm in Aberdeen for approximately eight years until his family moved to Swan Plain in 1935. They set up their home and lived on the farm until 1944. At that time the family moved back to Aberdeen and Dave lived with his grandparents David and Elizabeth (Giesbrecht) Peters. Dave worked for his Grandpa for two years up until his Grandfathers retirement. In 1946 Dave took the train to Rosthern where he got a job working for Sam Bedicker at a washing machine company. Due to his mentorship Dave grew in wisdom regarding finances. He moved on to Prince Albert to work at Thorpe Brothers and later to entrepreneur his own company, Peterson’s Plumbing and Heating. He sold the business in 1972 and began working for the Department Of Northern Saskatchewan in Prince Albert where he later retired.
While still in Rosthern Dave met and married the love of his life Mary Rempel on Sunday, August 15, 1948. They were blessed with a total of 75 and a half years of marriage. Dave and Mary started and raised their family in Prince Albert, SK. Dave and Mary had five children Gordon (1950), Marvin (1953), Judith (1955), George (1957), and Marlene (1958). They had a full and rewarding life.
Dave and Mary were very involved with the Grace Mennonite Church and Dave was an instrumental part of drafting, designing, and building two of these churches. Dave had many hobbies. He enjoyed learning, berry picking, wood working, bowling, singing in choirs and quartets, photography, and fishing. He had his own Quonset on the acreage where they lived many years. He designed and built all the cupboards in his home, china cabinets, office desk, filing cabinet, headboards, end tables, vases, and a toy train for each of his grandchildren.
Some of Dave’s favorite things were endless cups of coffee with cream, chocolate pie with whipped cream and a good home cooked meal, especially roasted meat, and mashed potatoes with gravy. He especially cherished our family gatherings at Waffle bakes, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Dave is predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Susanna Peters, his siblings Helen, Cornelius, Johnny, Alvin, and Jim. He was also predeceased by two of his children Gordon David Peters in 1994 and Judith (Judy) Marie Howland in 2017 as well as his son-in-law Noel Howland in 2023, and three grandsons, Taun Peters, Shawn Peters, and Jeremy Klassen.
