Blue Jays merchandise flying off the rack in Prince Albert

Oct 9, 2015 | 12:02 PM

A sea of blue is washing over the country.

It seems everywhere you go someone is wearing either a Blue Jays hat or a Blue Jays T-shirt.

Local retailers in Prince Albert selling Jays merchandise are enjoying the buzz around the team.

“We’ve seen a rise in sales with the hats, can barely keep them in stock. We’ve been ordering and re-ordering and a couple of my companies are out of stock until probably Christmas,” said Sandra Humphreys, Manager at Sporty T’s.

Humphreys said she has gone ahead and pre-ordered the Jays championship merchandise in case the team wins.

“It’s nice to see the buzz around the Blue Jays for how popular they’ve become and how people are really supporting them in the community,” she said.

At the opposite end of the Gateway Mall, Twilight Framing and Sports Gallery has also experienced demand for Jays’ merchandise.

“Mostly hoodies and t-shirts, too bad we didn’t have any Blue Jays jerseys but they’re all sold out,” said Manager Al Mattice.

Mattice said he was glad to see the Blue Jays winning, because demand for another popular team has dropped off.

“It helps out for sure, especially with the Riders not doing so well,” he said.

The Jays trail the Rangers 1-0 in the best-of-five American League Division series.  Game two takes place on Thursday afternoon at Roger’s Centre in Toronto.

Game three will be in Texas on Sunday.
