Former Raider set to be inducted into North American Indigenous Athletes Hall of Fame

One of the greatest Prince Albert Raiders of all time is being inducted into the North American Indigenous Athletes Hall of Fame (NAIAHF).

Dan Hodgson will be part of the organization’s 2024 class.

He spent three seasons with the Raiders, becoming the team’s all-time leader in goals, assists, and points. These are records he continues to hold to this day.

Hodgson told paNOW his cousin wrote to the NAIAHF about why he thought he should be inducted. Around three weeks later, Hodgson received a call saying they agreed and wanted to include him in their 2024 class.

“It brings back a lot of reminiscing, a lot of memories… it gives [me] time to pause and think about the career [I] had,” he said.

Hodgson found out shortly after his jersey was retired by the Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre. He explained he’d cherish both moments but couldn’t say which one meant more to him.

“I look at [my jersey being retired] as my three years there and I look at this Hall of Fame induction as… over the course of my career.”

He explained a big reason he’s been able to get to this point was his time in P.A.

“Those years in Prince Albert had a lot to do with it. I hope they are proud as I was proud to be a Raider,” Hodgson added.

He also hopes his recent accomplishments inspire Indigenous youth to follow their dreams. He said he remembers being a kid in a small northern community wanting to make something of himself.

“If I can give one kid hope then I think my job would be well done,” he said.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Wisconsin in March.
