Delicious scent of pizza and pasta to hit Melfort

The City of Melfort is getting a Boston Pizza.

The popular restaurant chain has been confirmed for the city's Stonegate commercial development.

“We do have a location in mind. I do believe they are proceeding with that in the fall,” said Perry Schwartz with Boston Pizza.

Rumors have been circulating that a Boston Pizza would be going to Melfort but nothing was concrete until a franchiser was found. Ron and Lisa Roberge have 20 years of experience in the food and restaurant business and decided they would take on the franchise in the town.

“We like the Melfort area, it’s a great place. The community is great, the people are great and I thought that really, Melfort could use a very good casual dining restaurant. This is the best there is as far as we’re concerned,” Ron said.

Ron and his wife Lisa have been living in Melfort for the past 16 years and believe this will be a destination card for the city.

“I guess what we would be is a destination restaurant. People will make a special occasion to come to town to go to Boston Pizza,” Ron said. “I think it’s going to be a really good thing for Melfort. We’re looking forward to adding a nice restaurant to the community.”

Despite a population of less than 6,000, Schwartz believes it will prosper in Melfort.

“If you take a look at Boston Pizza … it’s really built in small town Canada. We’re very very strong in suburban, and really, in rural communities and that’s coast to coast,” Schwartz explained.

“I think you’re looking for an area that’s developing or growing or that creates an opportunity. From what I understand there’s a lot of excitement about the BP coming to Melfort.”

Ron adds that he and his wife see the same opportunity.

“This area of Saskatchewan is where it’s happening, you know, with the resources of the Northeast. I’m confident that this area is going to go ahead and there will be a lot more people here,” Ron said.

Construction for the new Boston Pizza is set for mid-September with an opening date around early December.

According to StoneGate site plan, the restaurant is currently proposed to be located between Canalta Hotel and Tim Hortons.
