42/The Place Between the Pines
“42” hits a home run. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more. Mark my words Harrison Ford will get a nod for an Oscar next year.
Based on the real-life story of baseball hall of famer Jackie Robinson, this movie chronicles his battles on the field, as well as his struggles off the field, as the first black baseball player to play in the big leagues. My favourite line is “we defeated fascism in Germany, it’s time we defeated racism here at home.” 42 will take a swing at every emotion in your body. You will cheer Jackie Robinson when he hits the game winning home run, cry with him when he nearly gives up, and feel anger towards the ignorant people who attempt to dissuade him.
“42” is a definite must see.
