Gameday Preview

Rivalry expected to heat up when Raiders travel to Swift Current

Dec 1, 2023 | 1:00 PM

The Prince Albert Raiders (13-12-0-2) are in Swift Current for the final time this season as the club kicks off a three-in-three weekend against the Broncos (13-11-1-0) at the InnovationPlex.

The Green and Gold come into the game on a three-game skid dating back to the team’s 4-3 overtime loss in Wenatchee on Nov. 19. Following the narrow loss, the Raiders went on to drop back-to-back games at home including a 6-3 defeat to Moose Jaw and a 3-1 loss to Brandon. Prince Albert is 1-4 in their last five games with the lone win coming in Portland when the Raiders came away with a 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, the Broncos have seen a bit of success as of late as the team enters the game off a 5-3 win over Medicine Hat on Wednesday. The triumph is one of three victories for Swift Current in their last five games, which includes wins over Regina and Moose Jaw. In their last 10 games, the Broncos have prevailed six times while the Raiders are trending downward with just four wins out of their last 10 contests.

The two clubs have met twice this season already with either team coming out on top once: the Broncos won 3-2 in their first meeting while the Raiders took it 4-2 in the second game. A lot of bad blood sits between these two squads from their last meeting as that game saw multiple fights and ejections stemming from hits and after-the-whistle scrums. That game saw a combined 128 penalty minutes with six ejections overall.

Following the contest, the Raiders will continue westward in their three-in-three weekend onto Medicine Hat where they will clash with the Tigers for the first time this season on Saturday night.

Who to Watch

Forward Niall Crocker had the lone marker in Sunday’s loss to Brandon, helping him achieve 20 points on the season. The Raiders alternate captain enters the game with a point in seven of his last eight games, which includes a multi-point effort against Tri-City.

Veteran Sloan Stanick collected an assist during Crocker’s goal on Sunday to boost his season totals to a team-high 33 points on the season. With eight goals and 25 assists already this season, the pride of Rapid City, Man. is nearing the 100 career assist milestone with 92 while also sitting with 64 goals. During his time in the Green and Gold, the 20-year-old has potted 59 goals and 83 assists, putting him just eight points away from scoring 150 in a Raiders uniform.
