Holiday season is here

Residents line Central Ave. as Santa Claus arrives in P.A.

Santa Claus has touched down in Prince Albert.

Hundreds of residents crowded Central Ave. for the annual Santa Claus Parade on Saturday to catch a glimpse of Old Saint Nick as he made his way to Gateway Mall where he’ll stay until a few days before Christmas.

Parade floats, dancers, carolers, and even some of Santa’s friends were seen marching towards the mall with many of the people involved handing out candy canes and treats to the spectators on the sidewalks.

Skylar was one of many kids taking in the parade and said that his favourite part was the candy while he hoped to see some books under the tree for Christmas. Meanwhile, Jess said her favourite part of the Holidays was the gifts and she hopes that Santa will bring her some new toys.

CUPE workers, MLAs, and MPs were represented during the parade. Additionally, Parkland Ambulance Paramedics drove an ambulance in the annual event while the Prince Albert Fire Department rode in a fire truck that was decked out with festive ribbons and bows.

With the Santa Claus parade over, the Christmas festivities are only just beginning. Starting Saturday, Gateway Mall is opening its Winter Wonderland hosted by the Optimist Club of Prince Albert and includes Mrs. Claus’ story time, arts and crafts, and scenic train rides. The Wonderland is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and runs until Dec. 17.
