Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) celebrates its 52nd year with new additions

The 52nd edition of Canadian Western Agribition in Regina, Sask. will stay true to its roots with the traditional cattle shows but will also include exciting new programs this year.

Agribition CEO Shaun Kindopp said the event is filled with fresh opportunities and experiences for all attendees.

“Our strength lies in the variety of events, and we are fully prepared to showcase it. Our goal is simple: to offer something for everyone,” Kindopp said.

Some of those new attractions include the Ultimate CWA Taylor Swift Giveaway and the inaugural Canadian Animal AgTech Awards. Also debuting this year will be the crowning of the first Miss Rodeo Agribition, along with the freestyle bullfighting competition featuring several international athletes.

In addition to introducing a new set of events, Canadian Western Agribition President Kim Hextall said this continues to be a world-class livestock event with more than 1,200 international guests in attendance.

“We are proud to be a global showcase for livestock genetics, actively engaging, learning, and interacting with the agriculture industry,” Hextall said.

Agribition had its official kickstart with the traditional Burning of the Brand ceremony this morning, an honour given to Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.

“It’s one of the coolest things I’ve had the opportunity, the honour, to be a part of,” Moe said. “This is a world class agricultural show focusing on the livestock industry we have here but the also the whole agricultural industry.”

Retired agriculture reporter Jim Smalley also participated in the brand burning ceremony. The CWA newsroom was renamed in Smalley’s honour last year.

Events going on today include the Youth Showmanship and Team Grooming, Chore Team Competition, Alpaca Fleece Show, and the Canadian National Texas Longhorn Show.
