Both the victim of a “serious incident” the Estevan Police Service were called to Wednesday morning and the suspect have died.

A statement from a family member confirmed they were mother and son.

EPS was called to a residence on the 1200 block of Sixth Street shortly before 7 a.m. Police reported that they had a suspect in custody, that there was no risk to public safety, and that police would be on scene for several hours.

Later in the morning, EPS Chief Rich Lowen said an altercation occurred between the suspect — who was in custody — and a police officer, and both were airlifted by STARS to Regina.

Police said in the afternoon that the officer’s condition was stable.

River Steele Guillas told Discover Estevan that the victim was his mother, Karie Anne Guillas-Robinson, and the suspect was his youngest sibling, Justice Legend Antoine Guillas.

“Karie Anne succumbed to her wounds, and was pronounced dead at St Joseph’s Hospital this morning around 9 a.m.,” River Steele said.

“Justice Legend Antoine was pronounced dead on the operating table at the Regina General Hospital around 4 p.m.”

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team has assumed investigation into the incident at the police station. It has been reported that there was an officer-involved shooting and that further details would be made available.

“We have no further answers to the events surrounding their deaths,” said River Steele. “We have no timeline for obtaining any sort of updates due to police involvement. Their deaths are under investigation and we’d like the general public to respect our families’ privacy.”
