Oct 24, 2023 | 11:53 AM

Prince Albert RCMP and Saskatchewan RCMP West have made arrests following a shooting at Sturgeon Lake First Nation in September and a subsequent assault and extortion attempt that sent one man to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two Prince Albert men, Ian Felix aged 41 and Jared Naytowhow, 32 along with 24-year-old Brianna Forest, also from the community were charged with several counts including extortion with firearm, forcible confinement and aggravated assault.

On October 18, after a month of investigation, RCMP West discovered a stolen vehicle from Melfort while on active patrol and after following the vehicle to a residence, identified Felix as a suspect and made an arrest on the outstanding warrant. Officers also found and seized guns and ammunition in both the vehicle and the residence.

Felix is charged with numerous counts including careless use of a firearm, possession of firearm with tampered serial number and appeared in court on October. 23. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Rylan Hanson from Buffalo Narrows and 22-year-old Savannah Burns of Sturgeon Lake First Nation both of whom are connected with the home that Felix was found in have also been charged on outstanding warrants from the RCMP in Meadow Lake and Big River. Burns, a suspect from last month’s extortion case was charged on multiple counts including extortion with firearm, two counts of aggravated assault, forcible confinement and assault with a weapon. She made a court appearance on October. 20 in Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Police are still looking for Naytowhow and Forest from Prince Albert and Saskatchewan RCMP asks if anyone sees either suspect, not to approach them.
