Interim chief staying on permanently for Prince Albert police

The interim chief of the Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) isn’t leaving anytime soon.

The Prince Albert Board of Police Commissioners announced on Thursday that Patrick Nogier will be the force’s next chief, officially removing the interim tag.

Nogier joined PAPS back on June 1^st, 2023, replacing Jon Bergen who retired two weeks earlier.

“As we move forward, it is vital that we continue to have strong leadership for the Prince Albert Police Service who demonstrates professionalism and dedication to public safety. The Board believes Patrick is the right person for the job and is confident that he is both prepared and eager to meet the challenges associated with supporting the vision of the Prince Albert Board of Police Commissioners,” said Janet Carriere, Chair of the Prince Albert Board of Police Commissioners.

Nogier previously served as the Superintendent of the Criminal Investigations Division for the Saskatoon Police Force. He actually spent his entire 30-year career, before coming to Prince Albert in Saskatoon.

He explained he was honoured to take on the role as interim and that feeling hasn’t left now that he’s staying on permanently.

“I am dedicated to leading this Service with integrity, accountability, and a deep respect for the dignity of every individual. Together, we will strengthen our bonds, face challenges head-on, and create a future where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard,” said Nogier.

An official conference will introduce Nogier as the new chief on Monday, Oct. 23.
