Hollywood swashbuckler takes Prince Albert actress to uncharted waters

Prince Albert’s Elizabeth Chamberlain, well known for her roles in the horror genre, has taken her movie career on a different course.

Cursed Waters is set in the late 1600’s – early 1700’s time period, and follows a group of rogue pirates who are fleeing from a naval ship. They end up stranded on a mysterious Island and soon find themselves facing a new set of dangers. Chamberlain’s character Flora is among the leads and while noting the abundance of sword fighting and events happening on the water, described the movie as an action thriller.

“It feels like a movie everybody is going to like,” she said.

Also starring in the movie are Glenn Plummer (South Central, Showgirls, SAW II), Michael Pare’ (Eddie and the Cruisers, Hope Floats), Vernon Wells (The Road Warrior, Weird Science, Commando), and John Wells (Arena Wars, Wolf Hound). Filming, which was done in Los Angeles, wrapped up last July and is now in the post-production phase.

As a whole, the movie represents the biggest budget film Chamberlain has ever worked on and she noted how well the actors are cared for by people on set and how fine-tuned in general Hollywood is when it comes to making movies.

The production company also happens to be the same one responsible for Chamberlain’s last movie Alien Storm and similar to other roles she has played, the character of Flora was offered to her – as opposed to her having to go and audition. Chamberlain acknowledged she prefers this approach.

“It gives you roles that are good for you because somebody thinks I know who would be perfect for this, Elizabeth Chamberlain and then want to put me in a role that I’m good for,” she said.

Around the time of filming, there was also a Hollywood writer’s strike but Chamberlain explained production was not unionized, so they were largely unaffected by what was happening around them.

“In ways it actually benefits us because there’s not a lot of projects getting done, and so we were able to get more attention because people were like oh there’s something going on, let’s go look at that,” she said.

And while also acknowledging all of her shipmates were a bit lost at sea when it came to knowing about Canada, Chamberlain joked about being the young woman from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

“Usually when you say Saskatchewan to someone from the states, they’ll say oh like Saskatchatoon. They just have no idea where it is or what it looks like,” she said.

In addition to her work on Cursed Waters, Chamberlain has also recently wrapped up filming on Grotesque 2, which she said people are really gonna like.

“It’s exactly the same feel as Grotesque 1, but it’s like way better in every way,” she said explaining that in addition to more production value, everyone involved was just a lot more experienced.

Chamberlain is also working with the Broadway North group and in November, will wrap up work in Regina on a series of short films.
