Sylvia Ewanchyna
1945 ~ 2023
It is with sadness that the family of Sylvia Ewanchyna announce her sudden passing in her home on Friday, October 6, 2023, due to acute complications of her chronic lung illness.
Sylvia was born to Dan and Sophie Feschuk on April 27, 1945, in Prince Albert, SK. She was raised on the farm in Meath Park, Saskatchewan, and loved her position of being the baby of the family with 6 other siblings, Jerry, Peter, Anne, Olga, Walter and Stella.
After winning Curling Provincial championships with her friends, and graduating from the brand-new Meath Park High school, she moved to Prince Albert as life in the city always beckoned to her. Sylvia always had a very outgoing personality, and told her family stories of going to local dances, having line ups of eligible dancing partners, and the one dancing partner that ultimately caught her eye, marrying John Ewanchyna on July 10, 1965 in Meath Park.
John’s studies at the College of Pharmacy, University of Saskatchewan would take this new couple to Saskatoon, where they welcomed their first child, Kevin, a year later. Tanya and Tara followed 4 and 5 years respectively after the move back to Prince Albert. This young family eventually moved out to an acreage in Peter Pond, making many lasting and wonderful friendships and creating memories – the party scene was very much alive in Peter Pond, along with camping at Sandy Lake and working in Waskesiu.
Sylvia had stated to her family that she had wanted to become a nurse, but she was able to take her passion for helping in health care by working in various medical offices of internists, family physicians and surgeons over her work career. Despite it being very busy, she loved being in an environment where she could help people. Her caring and warm nature, and inquisitiveness in asking questions was a large component of her personality.
One of her best roles, and most loved roles, had been being Baba to her 7 grandchildren. They all will remember and laugh about the way Baba would kiss and nibble on their necks, even as adults. Sylvia leaves behind her grieving family of John; son, Kevin and daughter-in-law Adrienne, with their children Quinn, Zoe and Bennett; daughter, Tanya and son-in-law Mike Skipper, with their sons Ty and Reed; daughter, Tara and son-in-law Jay Funk, with their children Taylor and Trey; sisters, Anne Semchuk and Stella Borysiuk; brother, Walter Feschuk; numerous in-laws, cousins and nieces and nephews, along with her numerous friends that she always treated like family. She was predeceased in death by her parents, Dan and Sophie Feschuk; brothers, Jerry and Peter Feschuk; and sister, Olga Wojciechowski.
There will be a private funeral ceremony for family at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 13, 2023. Family and friends may view the service online at https://fweb.tv/110088 . There will be a Celebration of Life for all that wish to remember Sylvia at a later date at their home in Peter Pond.
