The developer of Prince Albert’s future recreation and entertainment district is giving residents a chance to share in the excitement on Thursday.

Signature Developments is hosting an afternoon celebration to give people in the city a chance to hear about the latest developments with The Yard District.

According to Rusty Clunie with Signature Developments and the Broda Group, progress over the summer has come along very well.

“Everything as far as where we felt Phase 1 would be is very well sold out, it’s paved, the curb and sidewalks are up,” he said. “The city’s Events Centre with the pools and two rinks is making great process. The entire development is pretty well sold out except for 14 acres.”

The developers will also be organizing bus tours to the construction for a first-hand look at The Yard.

Back in April, paNOW was given an exclusive look at the development and a peek at some of the businesses that will soon call it home.

The new development will include the events centre and recreation centre, a grocery store, auto dealerships and new hotels, along with space for office buildings.

Clunie said in talking with residents and business leaders, the overall feel of the projects is excitement.

“A good percentage of those I meet and talk to are quite excited and feel a new vibe in the air and excitement in P.A,” he said. “It’s our turn, it’s our time. It seems that it’s happening between various things coming relating to the hospital and potentially the forestry coming back…it’s exciting times.”

The community event and BBQ runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Art Hauser Centre west parking lot and is free to attend.
