Lloyd was born on May 18, 1931, at home in Spring Valley, SK. He was the 4th of 10 children of Velina & Joseph Forrest. The family moved up from Spring Valley to the Christopher Lake/Allingly district. They moved several times during his childhood, but stayed within that vicinity. At 18, Lloyd and Lorne flew up to the Yukon for a year to work on a boat to dredge for gold. The following year he had the opportunity to learn a trade. He apprenticed under Alvin Rogers as an electrician. It was while he was wiring houses around the Weirdale/Foxford area that he met Rose Hrischuk, and they married in 1956. Soon after they married, they moved up north to Uranium City where Lloyd did electrical work for the Eldorado Mine. Both Elaine and Noreen were born there. Lloyd & Rose soon decided on a new venture. In 1962, they bought the hotel in Meath Park with Ray and Fran Aiken as partners. Shortly after this, Lloyd and Ray started up Meath Park Electric. In 1965, Lloyd became a proud father again when his son Lyle was born. The hotel was sold in 1967, but the Electrical business continued for many years. Lloyd and Ray were partners for 37 years until Ray passed away. Lloyd continued working solo and tried unsuccessfully to retire 3 times. He was finally able to hang up his tool belt when he was in his 80’s.
His life with Fran began in 1992 and what a full and fun life it was! They travelled the world and enjoyed many activities such as dancing, snowmobiling, bowling, quadding, boating, swimming, gardening, ice fishing, cycling, playing cards, and spending much time with family and friends.
Lloyd was a pillar of the community, volunteering and working on whatever projects needed to be done. He was always ready and willing to lend a hand and help out. Lloyd and Fran were the head organizers for the Meath Park Polka Festival. He was very proud of the interlocking dance floor that he made, and got many compliments on how nice it was to dance on. People came from across Saskatchewan and other provinces to take in the festival. It was always a success!
Lloyd and Fran had a wonderful life together. They were well known and had the reputation of being a ton of fun! They definitely lived their lives to the fullest. They were thankful that their two families intertwined so beautifully together.
Lloyd was devastated when his lovely wife and kindred spirit, Fran, passed away in November of 2021. He always thought that she would outlive him, and her passing affected him deeply. He moved to River Breeze and lived there for a year until he needed more care. He then moved to the Wakaw Lakeview Pioneer Lodge where he lived till his passing.
A Celebration of Lloyd’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK, with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating.
