Charles "Tommy" Thomas Merasty

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Charles “Tommy” Thomas Merasty, late of Prince Albert, SK on August 31st, 2023, at the age of 75 years. Charles was born in Brochet, MB on July 6th, 1948, to Viola & Pierre Merasty. Tommy was born on a trapline in Brochet Manitoba. Tommy had a strong passion for sled dog racing. His claim to fame was winning the most prestigious race in northern Manitoba when he was 16 years old. This added to a family tradition of “Winners” at The Trapper’s Festival’s World Dog Team Championship (a 3-day race), in The Pas (Opaskweeyak), MB. It reflected a way of life, survival on the land, and part of the family heritage. Tommy lived and worked in Thompson MB for 30-plus years. He moved to Prince Albert, SK in 2016. Tommy made many friends over his years of dog sledding, working in Thompson, MB, and living in Prince Albert, SK. Tommy will be deeply missed by his partner Carol of 39 years. They shared many moments together, good, and bad. Carol stayed with him right through caring for him and his dementia progressed they shared an unbreakable loving bond over the years. Charles will be lovingly remembered by his partner of 39 years Carol Morrisseau; his sons Glenn, Robert, Darryl, Billy, Neil, Travis, Tim, & Trevor; his daughters Doreen, Bella, Lorraine, Lisa, Maureen, Glenda, Tammy, & Tannis; his numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren; his special caregivers Tannis Travis, Timmy, & Trevor; his special grandchildren Treyden, Tanner, & Tommy who also assisted with his day-to-day care; his aunts & uncles Arthur, Daniel, Evans, Sylvia, Carol, & Vera; his in-laws Irene, Debbie, George, Arlene, Sharon, Celina, Tony, Lee, & Richard Morrisseau; as well as numerous family and friends, far and near. Charles was predeceased by his son Tom Jr. Merasty; his grandson Turris Merasty; his parents Viola & Pierre Merasty; his aunts & uncles Billy, Christina, Angie, Janice, Noreen, & Ray; his grandparents Merasty & Highway; his sister-in-law Jeanette Morrisseau & his brother-in-law Glenn Morrisseau. Honourary Pallbearers are Larry Merasty, Jerry Merasty, John Pronteau, Albert Crait, Roger Merasty, Richard Morrisseau, The Garrioch’s, Tony Morrisseau, Baby Robert Merasty, Baby Tommy Keeper, Trake Morrisseau, Tatum Morrisseau, Trinity Morrisseau, Tannis Morrisseau, & all those who knew and loved Charles. The Pallbearers are Tim Morrisseau, Billy Merasty, Travis Morrisseau, Treyden Dettanikkeaze, Trevor Morrisseau, & Tanner Antsenen. A Funeral Service will be held for Charles on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, at 2 PM at MacKenzie Chapel in Prince Albert, SK. The first Wake Service will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023, at 4 PM at East Hill Community Hall in Prince Albert, SK. The second Wake Service will be held on Monday, September 4th, 2023, at 8 PM at the Roman Catholic Church in Thompson, MB.
