Scheduled gas flaring happening near Smeaton

Aug 23, 2023 | 10:43 AM

People around the Rural Municipality (RM) of Torch River will likely see a 40-foot flame from a flare stack near the town of Smeaton.

It’s part of a controlled natural gas flare at the TransGas Smeaton Town Border Station, which is 1.5 km southeast of the town.

Flaring will occur between 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on Thursday.

According to a media release from SaskEnergy, the flaring is necessary to perform maintenance work on the natural gas line system. Flaring occurs when natural gas needs to be removed from a line.
