The Reg Schellenberg Next Generation Legacy Award was announced during the recent Canadian Beef Industry Conference.

Interviews were conducted with the top nominees with Carling Matejka from Ponoka, Alta. selected as this year’s recipient.

Schellenberg, a rancher from Beechy, Sask. was President of the Canadian Cattle Association when he passed away suddenly in December 2022.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to be made through the Canadian Cattle Foundation to support the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders (CYL) Program.

Matejka was presented the award by members of the Schellenberg family, the Foundation, and the Saskatchewan Beef Industry Conference at this year’s CYL graduation.

The BeGrainSafe Program is an initiative of the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association that raises awareness about grain, grain handling, and grain storage.

G3 sponsorship has resulted in training for hundreds of professional and volunteer firefighters and purchased specialized grain rescue equipment for dozens of rural fire departments in the Prairies, Ontario, and Quebec.

G3 CEO Don Chapman said the company is proud to support the initiative.

“Safety is a top priority in everything we do at G3, and we’re pleased to extend that commitment to the communities we serve,” Chapman said.

Saskatchewan’s Water Security Agency has started a pilot program to share infrastructure costs with municipalities.

The program will make $500,000 available to communities and irrigation districts.

The funds are to help replace old bridges and culverts that cross the agency’s water channels.

Municipalities can apply at any time until March next year. Grants will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
