A 50-year-old man from Candle Lake is facing over a dozen charges, following a pair of incidents in the community earlier this month.

Steven Mitchell was arrested on Aug. 10.

Nipawin and Smeaton RCMP responded to the report of an assault with a firearm present outside of a residence.

Upon arrival, officers located and arrested Mitchell. He was released the following morning on an undertaking.

Five days later, officers executed a search warrant at Mitchell’s residence which resulted in the seizure of 23 firearms, a crossbow and approximately 100,000 rounds of ammunition.

Mitchell was arrested again until his next court date.

His 16 charges include pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a police officer, and attempting to disarm a police officer.

He also faces four counts of possession of firearms knowing possession is unauthorized, and three counts of possession of prohibited firearm with readily accessible ammunition.
