Four Prince Albert players and two coaches propelled Saskatchewan to a bronze medal at the U13 National Lacrosse Championships this past weekend.

The team edged out a 6-5 victory over Nova Scotia in the bronze medal game in front of a raucous, hometown crowd in Regina.

Javan Bexson, President of the Prince Albert Lacrosse Association was one of the coaches for the U13 team along with P.A.’s Mason Hawkes. He said the experience, overall, was memorable for the players and coaches.

“Regina did a great job of hosting, and it was a really, really great experience for all the athletes and players and coaches.”

Four Prince Albert players suited up for Team Saskatchewan for the tournament: Jaite Bexson, Carter Kulczycki, Bryn Beaulac, and Seth Northey.

Jaite Bexson the eventual game-winning goal against Nova Scotia on Saturday in a game that Javan said was tight the entire way through.

“We went up three nothing, then it was four to one,” he said. “They (Nova Scotia) got within two and then in the last two minutes they scored one to make it a one-goal game and we had to ride out the last minute and a half. So, it was a really intense final.”

For Bexson, the tournament was not only a great opportunity for everyone involved but helped showcase the amazing lacrosse talent that Prince Albert has, adding the sport just keeps growing.

“We had these four athletes in U13. We had numerous other athletes on the U15 boys and female team (and) the U17 team. We had even one athlete playing U22 for Manitoba because Saskatchewan didn’t have enough girls for a team there.”

While the Box Lacrosse season has wrapped up, Prince Albert Lacrosse is getting ready for the Field Lacrosse season set to go next month.
