Special Meeting

P.A. council meeting to discuss 11 per cent wage increase for out-of-scope workers

Aug 18, 2023 | 5:00 PM

Prince Albert’s council is holding a special meeting to approve a wage increase for out-of-scope workers.

These are employees who are excluded from bargaining units with the majority in P.A. being managers who supervise unionized employees.

If approved, these workers would see an 11 per cent raise. It would include an immediate three per cent increase for work dating back to Jan. 1, 2023, a two per cent increase on Sept. 10, 2023, a three per cent increase on Jan. 1, 2024, and Jan. 1, 2025.

This would be very similar to the raise the City is offering inside workers who are currently working to rule, which is basically avoiding going above and beyond basic duties, in an attempt to get back to the negotiating table.

“Although Out of Scope employees have historically received their general wage increases after the CUPE locals have settled their agreements, the delayed settlement of the CUPE agreements is now unnecessarily delaying the general wage increases for out-of-Scope staff,” read a council report.

The total cost of this increase would be over $1.73 million. This is based on the roughly $7.4 million out-of-scope workers made in 2021.

Council’s meeting is scheduled for Aug. 21, 2023, starting at 4:30 p.m.
