A&W hosting 15th Burgers to Beat MS Day

Aug 17, 2023 | 3:56 PM

For the 15th time since 2008, A&W’s across Canada are supporting those with Multiple Sclerosis.

A&W has once again partnered with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada to bring Burgers to Beat MS Day to your local fast food chain.

Today (Thursday, Aug. 17), two dollars from every Teen Burger sold will go to support Canadians living with MS.

“Aside from awareness, I heard that there’s a lot of cases of multiple sclerosis here, across Canada, so it’s really a big help to raise funds for them and we’ve been doing this for a long time, so it’s been a big day for us,” said Melfort A&W manager, Vatle Galvez.

According to A&W’s website, ‘Canada has one of the highest rates of MS diagnoses in the world and its effects can be profound and often unpredictable, however, they know they can count on their customers to help.

Any donation provides services to Canadians with multiple sclerosis and their families, while also helping fund critical research to help create a world without MS.

With 12 Canadians being diagnosed with MS every day, A&W believes our support is needed more than ever.

“This is my first time doing this too, so it’s really meaningful for me as well that I would be able to help raise funds for them and raise awareness for our staff here too. Most of them are new here and new to A&W and they are happy to participate in this kind of fundraising event,” Galvez added.

Galvez isn’t exactly sure how much they sold at her location last year, however, her guess was about a thousand.

She did say, however, that the Teen Burger sales are more than double their average and that they had to order a lot of extra patties and buns to make sure they don’t run out, thanks to all the local support.

“We are expecting a lot of people because they are either extremely supportive about this kind of stuff,” Galvez told northeastNOW.

“Earlier today, a lot of people called asking if we were selling teen burgers for the MS. Most of the people coming in are ordering teen burgers, so I can really see the support they’re giving to the MS Society. I think that this day will just continue to go on and I hope people will support it every year. They’re great at supporting us in this fundraising program.”

101.5 Beach Radio also stopped by to support A&W and MS Canada, with their summer free ride contest.
