Barry Torborg
1955 – 2023
It is with great sadness the family of Barry Torborg announce his sudden passing. Barry died peacefully in his sleep at home on July 30, 2023 at the age of 68 years.
Barry was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved nature and the outdoors. There was always a good story to be told from his camping and fishing adventures. This prompted Barry to share his knowledge and enjoyment by volunteering as a camp counselor for Camp Circle of Friends which offered children with terminal cancer a chance to have a fun summer vacation.
In his youth Barry worked with his father and older brother in construction. Following completion of high school, he took carpentry at SIAST. Barry changed his mind opting instead to become a journeyman welder earning his Red Seal and Pressure Ticket for Welding.
In 1995 Barry went back to school this time enrolling in the College of Education. Many of his classes were taken at St. Peter’s College in Muenster. Classes not available in Muenster were taken at the Saskatoon campus of the University of Saskatchewan.
Barry’s first teaching position was at the high school in North Battleford. He also taught briefly at SIAST Palliser Campus in Moose Jaw. Barry finished his teaching career at Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert.
Barry is survived by his wife Alice; stepson Jason Patterson (Christine); grandchildren Madison, William, Wyatt and Garret; brother Ron (Jackie); sisters-in-law Patricia Leson (Ed) and Marie Callbeck; brothers-in-law Bob (Sheila) Patterson, Herb (Brenda) Patterson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Barry was predeceased by his parents Agnes and Shorty Torborg, and his parents-in-law Norah and Alfred Patterson.
A Celebration of Life for Barry will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at St. Christopher’s Anglican Church in Christopher Lake, SK.
