Police dog helps nab suspect

Aug 1, 2023 | 11:12 AM

Old technology in the form of a police dog’s nose combined with new satellite technology helped Prince Albert Police catch a suspected vehicle thief.

PAPS was called just after 1 a.m. today to a report of a recently stolen vehicle.

Officers learned the vehicle had OnStar navigation and used it to find and disable the vehicle.

They had already tried to stop it but the suspect fled.

After the vehicle was not driveable, the 20-year-old man driving it ran on foot but was found shortly by the police dog.

The accused person will appear in provincial court today on charges of a theft of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and also operating it in a way that is dangerous to the public.
