Jul 29, 2023 | 10:00 AM

Winning the nomination by acclamation, Alana Ross has officially been named the Sask. Party’s candidate for Prince Albert Northcote.

In a statement provided for paNOW, Ross thanked her family and friends for their continued patience, love, and support.

“It has been my honour and a privilege for me to serve all people in my first term as your MLA for Prince Albert Northcote and I am excited to be your nominated Saskatchewan Party candidate for my second term in the upcoming 2024 election,” she said.

Going forward, the economy appears to be very important for Ross. Noting the Conference Board of Canada’s projection that Saskatchewan’s economy will expand by 2.5 per cent this year, the strongest in the country, Ross said the benefits of this economic growth for Prince Albert are evident. One example she provided is Victoria Hospital Project.

“The number of beds will increase to 242, up 40 per cent with further space to expand as needed. This means many more jobs and services coming to our city.”

Ross also noted the new Rose Garden Hospice will provide quality palliative care for the people in the city and surrounding areas and will take much-needed pressure off the medical unit at the Victoria Hospital.

Prior to being elected, Ross has a background in nursing and teaching Continuing Care Education.

She’s also very involved in the community, having held positions on various boards, coached, and was a 4-H leader, according to a media release.

During her time as an MLA, Ross has served as deputy whip and Legislative Secretary responsible for forestry to the Minster of Resources.

“As your elected MLA I will continue to do what is best for my constituents and citizens in Prince Albert and represent you to the best of my ability,” she said. “We want our city to continue to grow, to be the best place to live in Saskatchewan, and the best place for all our families to live, play and prosper.”

The provincial election has been scheduled to take place on Oct. 28. 2024. The NDP’s candidate for Prince Albert Northcote is Nicole Rancourt, who lost to Ross in the 2020 election.
