It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of John (Jack) Edward Grasley, late of Uranium City, SK at the age of 67 years from cancer, on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Prince Albert, SK, with the love of his life, Cathy Hartley by his side.

Jack was raised and schooled in Saskatchewan. He worked for 12 years with the CN/CP telecommunication work crews, and this is where Cathy first met Jack in Hudson Bay, SK. From there, Jack relocated to Uranium City and became involved with Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management fulfilling many fire fighting roles. Of note, he was a Fire Crew Boss for the “Initial Attack Crew”, taking his crew to many places in Canada and the USA fighting fires. Jack’s crew were once called the “Dragon Slayers”, for putting out their assigned spots. In the last few years before retirement, he worked in the office as a radio dispatcher. Jack received the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal in his retirement year “2021” ……….he loved what he did.

Jack was also a lifelong NHL fan of the Montreal Canadians (A “HabFan” through and through). If he wasn’t watching hockey, you would find Jack enjoying his second favorite outdoor pastime, fishing. Jack loved spending his time fishing at Miliken Lake and many of his other “secret spots” with his fishing buddies. Jack was known to his sister as, “The Gentle Giant”, and will be remembered for his larger than life smile, laughter, immense generosity, and kindness. The community support of the Uranium City residents touched Jack’s family so much during his illness. The generosity and kindness of his many friends and acquaintances is greatly appreciated.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his spouse Cathy Hartley; his older sister Linda Haynes (nee Grasley) of Alberta; his older brother Harold Grasley Jr of Saskatchewan; his nieces Deborah Haynes, Gwendolyn Haynes, and Kayla Loblaw; 3 grandnieces, and 1 grandnephew.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Harold Grasley Sr. and F. Kathleen Grasley (nee Macomber) also from Saskatchewan.
