A memorial garden outside Prince Albert has a new addition thanks to a well-known charity in the city.

The Optimist Club of Prince Albert recently purchased and donated a play structure for kids to use at Jessy’s Garden. The Garden, roughly 20 km outside the city, was created in 2008 in memory of Jessy-Leigh.

“They were desperately in need of a play centre or play structure out there so that when the parents come with kids either to volunteer or to pick up produce, the kids would have somewhere to go and be entertained,” said VP of the Optimist Club John Truba.

Truba said they initially looked at buying a brand-new structure from Prince Albert. However, they eventually came across someone selling a play centre.

“They agreed to sell it to us for a price, and we actually went on Monday and dismantled it in the person’s yard, transported out to. Jessie’s garden and put it all back together and it looks great.”’

He added the structure has many activities for the kids to enjoy

“A couple of slides, swings, a tower, a lookout tower, the monkey bars, much more than the ones we’re looking at to purchase brand new and that this was in such excellent shape,” he said. “So, we just couldn’t pass it by.”

“We were so happy to be involved in this project and I I hope it helps, you know, Jesse’s garden and all the kids that come out there. I’m sure they’re gonna enjoy it for years.

The Optimist Club is nowhere near done for the summer as they will be busy with different fundraisers including their food booth at the P.A. Exhibition next month.

They are also selling raffle tickets at Lake Country Co-op and at the Exhibition.

“All the money we raised goes right back into the Community, whether it’s for sports programs or anything to do with the kids.”
