The Wray Ranch is being recognized for its efforts to advance environmentally sustainable cattle production.

Doug and Linda Wray and Tim and Joanne Wray from Irricana, Alta., were presented with the 2023 Environmental Stewardship Award at the Alberta Beef Industry Stampede Summit at Calgary on Monday.

The Alberta Environmental Stewardship Award is presented by Alberta Beef Producers, along with Ducks Unlimited Canada, and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

A record-breaking donation from the Brandt Group of Companies marks the largest contribution the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) in Saskatchewan.

Brandt CEO Shaun Semple and Chair Gavin Semple presented the $2 million cheque to CNIB’s Vice President of Western Canada Christall Beaudry and John M. Rafferty, President, and CEO of CNIB during a Saskatchewan Roughriders game at Mosaic Stadium.

Brandt is a long-time supporter of key CNIB initiatives including its CNIB Guide Dogs program. The donation will be used to further expand the organization’s operations across Saskatchewan.

It will also kickstart the national Mobile Hub initiative that will ensure blind and partially sighted Canadians can benefit from a range of programs, such as technology training, employment skills workshops, and recreational activities like adaptive yoga no matter where they live.

CNIB’s Christall Beaudry said a donation of this magnitude will measurably increase its ability to deliver important services throughout Saskatchewan and across the country.

The Canola Council of Canada (CCC) has found its next president and CEO.

Chris Davison joined the CCC in August 2021 as vice president, stakeholder and industry relations. Prior to joining the CCC he held leadership roles with several organizations, most recently with Syngenta as head of business sustainability for North America. He has more than 25 years of experience in the agriculture sector, including work in the areas of public and regulatory affairs, and government and industry relations.

Outgoing CCC president Jim Everson said the organization is very fortunate to have Davison step into this role.

“Chris has demonstrated strong leadership and teamwork which he will put to work to advance the sector as part of its next phase of growth,” Everson said.

Davison assumes his new duties on July 31.
