P.A. emergency crews kept busy over Canada Day weekend

Emergency crews in the Prince Albert area were kept busy over the Canada Day weekend.

Things got started with the Prince Albert Police Service on early Friday morning when they responded to a stabbing in the 1000 block of 8th Street East. Upon arrival, police found a 39-year-old man suffering from serious life threating injuries. He was taken to hospital where he is now currently in stable condition.

As a result of the incident, police located and arrested a 37-year-old man inside the residence and charged him with one count of aggravated assault. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. No further information was released.

Parkland Ambulance was also keeping busy over the weekend as they responded to 180 incidents while their communications teams handled 1,027 incidents over the past seven days.

Of those 180 incidents, two of them were ATV involved accidents with both involving youth.

The first happened in the early hours of Canada Day in the North Side area. Paramedics cared for a 16-year-old girl who fell off an ATV where she was taken to hospital in good and stable condition. She was a passenger on the ATV and was not wearing a helmet.

The second happened later that same day in the Lakeland area where they cared for a 14-year-old boy involved in a dirt bike accident. He was also taken to hospital in good, stable condition and was wearing a helmet when the incident occurred.

Outside of Prince Albert, Shellbrook first responders were called to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3 east of Shellbrook on Monday morning.

Upon arrival, crews talked to a witness when they learned that one of the vehicles failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the second vehicle. The driver who ran the stop sign fled the scene and was last seen heading east.

Parkland Ambulance also responded to the call where they transported the two occupants of the second vehicle to hospital with unknown injuries.
