The U15 Prince Albert Attack made history on Sunday afternoon, becoming the first field lacrosse team in the city’s history to win gold at provincials.

The Attack squared off with the Saskatoon Havoc in the championship game which saw PA come out on top 13-10.

“I’m pretty proud of all the kids,” said head coach Matt Robin. “A lot of them hadn’t experienced that and being able to win a championship is huge especially at a young age because it develops a better character for them as they grow up and they know now moving forward what it takes to win championships.”

Prince Albert went undefeated through the round-robin stage of the tournament, defeating the Yorkton Fighting Pikes 17-11 before cruising past Weyburn Rattlers in game two, 18-5. Their biggest win was yet to come as in game three, the Attack steamrolled the Cornerstone Chaos 19-2 to advance to the finals.

The blue and gold continued to roll into the championship game, starting things off strong by jumping out to an 8-4 lead heading into the second half. Prince Albert managed to get their lead up to 12-7 before the Havoc came storming back in the later minutes to make it a two-goal game.

Robin said that in that moment, he reminded his team about how far they came and to keep doing what they were doing all tournament.

“Just keep pushing forward,” he said. “Work together as a team, keep moving the ball around, and don’t give up. Keep up what brought them to this championship game.”

Additionally, Robin said that the provincial title came as a surprise to him as the team didn’t have much preparation going into the tournament.

“There wasn’t a whole lot of games going prior to the tournament,” he explained. “It was hard to say (how we would do) because we didn’t know who we were going up against and what the other teams were like. Once we started going, it was pretty good. The kids really bought into what we were trying to explain to them and that showed through the whole weekend.”

He added he’ll be back behind the bench for U15 Attack next season when things get running again in the spring.
