New name, new colours, new season

PA Sr. men’s Royals change name to Athletics for new season

It’s a season of change for Prince Albert’s Highway 3 baseball team as the club changed its identity for the 2023 season.

The team retired the Royals’ name and colours and will now start a new chapter under the name the Athletics while adopting new Green and Gold colours after three years. According to the coach and manager of the club, Dillon Zuck, he said that he and the team decided that it was time for a change.

“With the senior team being a new addition to Prince Albert baseball, we decided to do our own thing with it,” he explained. “Kind of stray away from the Royals name just to give ourselves our own identity.”

Since the season began earlier this month, the A’s have yet to find themselves on the winning side of a game, losing three straight. PA opened their campaign with a doubleheader in Bruno against the Humboldt Dodgers on Saturday where they fell 6-1, 12-3. The A’s then fell again last night 2-0 to the Birch Hills Brewers.

With the Tisdale Rangers set to visit Prince Albert on Tuesday and a zero in the win column, Zuck said that there needs to be more noise at the plate in order to change that number.

“Our defense is amazing right now, the guys that we’re throwing on the mound are doing their job, we just got to get on the sticks,” he said. “That’s the biggest thing with us right now and we got to start seeing the ball better. After we get that going, the wins will come.”

Following the game on Tuesday night, the Athletics will make their way to Tisdale to rematch the Rangers a week later on July 27. Tisdale plays Humboldt tonight in Marysburg.
