Gordeania Paquette
1942 ~ 2023
Gordeania Ann “Gordy” Paquette passed away suddenly on June 9, 2023. Gordy is survived by her daughters, Lori and Marie (Terry); her son, Danny (Brenda) and their children, Wesley and Brendan; her brother, Leon Deschambeault; her brother-in-law, Cornelius Allenby; and her sister-in-law, Wanda Deschambeault; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordy was born in the Glen Mary district north of Kinistino, SK, on October 23, 1942, to Alexander and Helen Deschambeault. She attended the Pehonan School in the Glen Mary district and worked at the Swen Café in Kinistino until the family moved to Prince Albert. Gordy continued her schooling in Prince Albert at PACI while working at the Princess café. In 1961 she met the love of her life, Robert, and they were married November 20, 1962. After their wedding they moved to Kitimat, BC, where she babysat for the people they lived with. The next move was to Whitehorse where she helped out with Robert’s sister Lauraine’s family. In 1966, shortly before moving back to Albertville, Lori was born. Marie came along in 1968 and Danny in 1976. Gordy’s first love was always her family. She loved caring for kids and babysitting for other people. Her great-nephews, Ryan & Royden, kept her busy for a while, and she often remembered with fondness their shenanigans. Her sister Eileen’s family was also in Albertville so Suzie, Jim & Leanne were raised alongside Gordy’s own children. Together, Gordy & Robert kept a beautiful garden producing what they needed for canning and preserving. There were always lots of flowers even when it became too difficult to keep up a vegetable garden. Gordy played the guitar and sang when her kids were growing up. They have fond memories of her harmonizing with her sister Eileen on a regular basis. They would always bring the guitar along on their frequent camping trips to remote areas of Northern Saskatchewan. As everyone else went out fishing, the two sisters preferred to stay back and keep the fire going and be prepared with meals for their families.
In 2009, Danny introduced Brenda and her son, Wesley, into the family. Gordy always accepted Wesley as her first grandson. In 2011, Brendan came along and was the light of Grandma’s world. She was able to look after him for a time while his parents would be away at work and would frequently have him for sleepovers and play dates after that. They were known to make “pupcakes” and Grandma would often be found sitting on the floor building with blocks or racing Mario cars on the Nintendo.
On August 15, 2012, Gordy was devastated to find that Robert had passed away. After that, she lived with Lori in Albertville where they were dedicated to looking after one another. Together they traveled to visit relatives and new places including Mexico. They continued to have beautiful flowers that Gordy tended until the end.
