Fire bans lifted by City of Prince Albert and surrounding rural municipalities

May 25, 2023 | 11:58 AM

The recent precipitation is offering good news for those who have been longing to have a cook out.

The City of Prince Albert confirmed Thursday, its fire ban that was issued on May 16, would be lifted at 12 p.m.

The ban applied to all areas north of the North Saskatchewan River, including Little Red River Park.

“Residents are reminded that all recreational burning must conform to the City of Prince Albert Bylaw 15 of 2021,” the city’s statement said. “Failure to comply with this bylaw could result in a fine of $300.”

The news from the city follows the province’s announcement Wednesday it was lifting its ban.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency issued the ban on May 16. It applied to all Crown lands, provincial parks and the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District north of Highway 16.

Municipalities that issued fire bans of their own are expected to make amendments or rescind them to coincide with fire risk ratings in their area.

The District of Lakeland also confirmed Thursday they had lifted their fire ban. The RM’s of Buckland, Garden River and Prince Albert have taken similar steps.
