TLS Royals teams shine in weekend home openers

Despite some hazy skies, some Prince Albert baseball teams were busy this past weekend.

Many of the TLS Royals teams held their home openers in P.A., including the 18U, 15U and 18U teams.

The 15U AA Royals hosted the East Central Dodgers and came away with a 7-3 victory.

Coach Graham McGregor said despite it being just the second game of the season, the team certainly delivered.

“We were very impressed with the pitching performance of each of the kids that threw last night,” he said. “We definitely have some work to do in the area of fielding and hitting but that’s expected this time of year.”

The 15U Royals were supposed to play in a tournament over the weekend in Saskatoon, which was unfortunately cancelled.

McGregor said they’re working on rescheduling games and practices that were called off due to wildfire smoke to keep the players active before a major tournament at the beginning of June.

He said, so far, the team has really come together this season.

“It’s a good group of kids. The core of this team has been together for a number of years now. As a group, they get along very well, they’re hard-working, they’re dedicated and we’re looking forward to seeing what they can accomplish on the provincial level.”

Meanwhile, the 18U Royals held their home opener over the weekend in a doubleheader against the Regina Buffaloes. They lost both games by scores of 12-6 and 14-7.

The 13U Royals were also in action over the weekend as they faced the Muenster Red Sox.
