Along with the Canadian Safe Boating Council, Parks Canada promotes Safe Boating Week May 20-26, 2023.Parks Canada reminds visitors these five actions can save lives:1. Wear a lifejacket.2. Get boating education.3. Be prepared: make sure both you and your vessel are ready.4. Cold water can kill. Be aware of cold-water immersion risks. 5. Don’t drink and boat.Since 1995, Safe Boating Awareness Week has been the mainstay of boating safety to over 16 million people who recreate on Canadian waters. For information, visit: csbc.ca/en/safe-boating-awareness-week.Parks Canada also encourages additional precautions to stay safe:· Share a trip plan with a trusted family member or friend.· Take the essential items for the appropriate activity.· Adventures in national parks have risks. Come ready to experience all nature has to offer and mitigate risk by planning and preparing carefully. Beaches and open water are not patrolled.· Never downplay weather. Check the weather before leaving for the park and starting activities but be prepared for anything. Weather can be different from minute to minute and place to place.
