The Canola Council of Canada is now accepting letters of intent for the 2024 Canola Agronomic Research Program (CARP).

It was designed to assist canola growers in increasing yields and profitability, while reducing production risks and enhancing sustainability.

The deadline for submissions is June 16, with notification and requests for full proposals going out to applicants in September.

A list of research priorities can be found on the Alberta Canola, SaskCanola, and Manitoba Canola Growers websites. Previously funded CARP projects can be found on the Canola Council of Canada website.

African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to spread in eastern Europe and southeast Asia.

In the Swine Health Information Center May global swine disease surveillance report Executive Director Dr. Paul Sundberg said another ASF outbreak has been identified in Greece.

“This is in a commercial farm in Greece versus the small production system that was infected in 2020,” Sundberg said. “The assumption is that this is a spillover from wild boar that’s bordering next to Greece and that continues to move down into Greece from eastern Europe.”

Sundberg said Hungary has worked very hard to try to control ASF and now is asking to move some pork products from specific areas.

He said that’s an indication there are specific areas that are at a very low or negligible risk.

Sundberg said Australia remains on high alert because of the opportunity for ASF to move in through pork products.
