Forge FC Bobby Smyrniotis named Forge FC technical director and head coach
Bobby Smyrniotis, unveiled as technical director and head coach of Forge FC, says his Hamilton-based Canadian Premier League team will combine attacking flair with hard work.
Smyrniotis (pronounced Smeer-neo-tiss) is known for his work with Toronto-area soccer academy Sigma FC, which has produced the likes of Canadian internationals Cyle Larin, Kyle Bekker and Manjrekar James.
“From a football aspect I like all the beautiful things of the game,” Smyrniotis said in an interview Monday. “I like possession, I like attacking, I like a lot of movement. But at the same time, that’s all done through a code of working hard, that 11 players attack and 11 players defend. I think that’s where you get the best aspects out of football.
“We want to put a team on the field that first and foremost our crowd, our supporters, everyone in Hamilton is proud of. So we’ll do a lot of very good and football-purist things in the game, but we’ll do it through a lot of hard work.”
