P.A. Family Expo delivers smiles and learning opportunities for youth

Saturday was for the kids at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre as the Prince Albert Family Expo was in full swing.

Hundreds of families came through the door to enjoy the different activities and games that were set up, including some crafts, a free library, and even a free snack bar.

A Family Expo planning committee member, Julie Stocki, took some time to chat with paNOW about the day where she explained how the event doesn’t just educate children, but the parents as well.

“It’s about early child development,” she said. “Families with (kids) or who are expecting children. It’s a place of all kinds of activities and events where people can find what’s in our community, what resources they can hook up with.”

Parkland Ambulance and the Prince Albert Fire Department were also in attendance and offered unique opportunities, such as the paramedics allowing the youth to tour an ambulance while the firemen allowed the kids to try on some of the equipment like their jackets and helmet.

Stocki added that a lot of the vendors were interactive like that.

“Some of them are private businesses and they obviously have services for children,” she said. “The organizations of the Early Childhood Council are often non-profit organizations that work with young children. One booth is making a sort of sensory jar and is showing that the families are working with the kids to make them while the free library is about helping the kids read more so everyone gets a free book, different things like that.”

Other vendors included the Prince Albert Historical Museum and the Early Years Family Resource Centre. The event ran from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
