Evening of magic planned to help École Valois launch new archery program

Prince Albert’s only Francophone school plans to launch a new archery program, and has set a fundraising target of $6,000.

As money doesn’t just fall out of a hat, École Valois is planning a special fundraiser for the night of Thursday, May 11. Anne Barlow, a Parent Council Member at École Valois, explained they’re hosting an evening of magic that will be fun for the whole family.

“Roger Boucher, a local entertainer and also parent to two children who attend the school, is donating his time and talents to put on a performance at the school gym,” she said.

As the program will be in French, Barlow said it’s a great way for French immersion students to practice the language.

“And since magic is a universal language, the show will be fun for non-French speakers as well,” she added.

Boucher, has been doing magic shows in French for over 10 years, and told paNOW he’s looking forward to wowing the audience. However, Boucher also declined to reveal what tricks he may have hiding up his sleeve.

“What they can expect is an interactive show in French, and lots of laughs,” he said.

The school has a “Magic Club” and the children from the club will be assisting Boucher with the performance.

“I am really excited for the kids. They have been working hard on the club to improve their skills and are going to be a great addition to the start of the show! They are going to be doing some roving magic,” he said

Tickets are on sale at Canadian Tire and are $20/person (buy three, get one free). The evening will also feature a silent auction and a 50/50 draw.

Lakeland Co-op and Canada Safeway have both donated money to help with costs.

Doors open at 6 p.m.
