Dewell Dee Meyers was born on March 23rd, 1960 and was raised in Meath Park, Saskatchewan. As a young man, Dewell developed a strong work ethic that carried on throughout his entire life. Dewell worked on the family farm for all of his youth. After graduating high school, Dewell attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan. Dewell utilised his degree and worked as a crop inspector and agronomist. He also owned Meyers Seeds and Inputs Management Agro in addition to managing a large farm operation. Dewell maintained a strong relationship with the University of Saskatchewan by testing new seed varieties to help advance agricultural research. Dewell grew and sold certified seed through his business, Meyers Seeds. In his semi-retired days, Dewell was an active day trader and was well known and respected within the farming community.
Dewell had a big personality and his presence filled a room. He had a great sense of humour and a memorable booming laugh. The love and respect that he shared for everyone made them feel significant. Dewell would go out of his way to make sure that people felt welcomed and cherished the friendships that he made throughout his life and held his best friends closest to his heart, as these friends are whom he considered family. He was fun, adventurous, generous and lived hard in all senses of the word. Although Dewell hated travelling, he loved destinations: he could be found throwing dice at a craps table in Las Vegas, at the finish line cheering for his horse winning the Kentucky Derby or cheering for the Raptors in Toronto. Dewell also loved to drive. Whether the machine had two wheels or eighteen wheels, Dewell would be in control.
Above all else, Dewell loved his family and would do anything for Shannon, Dee and Shea. He was infinitely generous to his girls, as they were his entire world. To them, he was known as Dad and to his granddaughters, he was known as Yaya. Dewell was proud of his sons-in-law, who quickly became the sons that he never had. He had a tremendous respect for them and trusted them to look after his girls. Dewell valued education and instilled a passion for learning in his children. He was proud of the women that his daughters became.
Dewell lost his battle to Multiple Myeloma on April 18th, 2023 at age 63 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. His memory is cherished amongst his wife Shannon, his daughters Dee (John) Cameron and Shea (Kirk) Pilon, granddaughters McKay Cameron and Meyers Pilon, in-laws Doug and Jean Hewitt, brother-in-law Kelly Hewitt and family, and numerous lifelong friends.
He is predeceased by his father Jim, mother Ethel, brother Wyett, brother Trey (in infancy), Frank Mandeville and numerous aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dale Ardell, Dr. Mark Bosch and his team, as well as his favourite nurses Minette and Melanie from the Victoria Hospital for their care in his final days. At Dewell’s request, there will not be a prayer service or a funeral. Instead, his family will celebrate his life privately.
