Paul Kowalchuk
1929 ~ 2023

Paul George Kowalchuk passed away on April 7, 2023, in Shellbrook, SK, after a lengthy illness.

Paul was born on July 4, 1929, on a farm midway between Melville and Ituna, to Mary and Nick Kowalchuk. Throughout his life he had developed a fascination for woodwork, and loved playing softball. He loved to trap, tan and tailor muskrats hides, making repairs to damaged items, but also creating new things.

Paul eventually chose the path of being a teacher, which with the help of his father, he attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. In his first year of teaching north of Big River, he met the love of his life, Stella, and was married a year later.

Wanting to pursue further education, Paul attended the University of Saskatchewan to obtain a degree in Industrial Arts. After graduating, he became an Industrial Arts Teacher, where he taught for twenty-five years at Riverside Collegiate.

Just prior to retiring, Paul moved to an acreage north west of the city. He would grow produce, especially after retirement, which he would then give away to his relatives, friends, neighbours, the Food Bank and Senior Homes. A workshop was constructed on his acreage where he could pursue his love of woodwork, metalwork, plastics, and upholstery. Many projects were designed and built for the St. Joseph Church.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Debra Judy Kowalchuk; his son, Allan Barry Kowalchuk; his daughter, Brenda Ann (Nolan) Novokovski.

He was predeceased by his wife, Stella Kowalchuk (née Boran) of 62 years; his parents, Nick and Mary Kowalchuk; his siblings and their spouses.

The Prayer Service for Paul will be held at 7:30 p.m., on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at River Park Funeral Home, in Prince Albert, SK, with Deacon Eldon Danielson officiating. The Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the St. Joseph Church, in Prince Albert, SK, with Father Jim Kaptein officiating. Interment will take place at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Paul’s name may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, Box 3000 – 1200 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T4.
