Volunteer blitz begins ahead of long-awaited Esso Cup
It’s been five years since a committee first began to plan for the Esso Cup in Prince Albert. Now the opening ceremonies are less than three weeks away and the buzz is building toward a fever pitch.
On the morning of Apr. 4, with 18 days to go before the kickoff event, the Esso Cup Committee announced the beginning of a volunteer blitz and some of their plans for the festivities around the Esso Cup. These include a welcome banquet, a hockey house, and local schools being able to attend the games.
“Now things are starting to ramp up and it’s feeling real,” said Robin Wildey, Esso Cup chair. “People are getting excited. I’m looking forward to this great event, it should be an awesome time. Finally getting this event on is going to be great.”
On Apr. 22, the kickoff event will take place in front of the Art Hauser Centre, including local musician Donny Parenteau and his band, and a barbecue. This will be followed by a welcome banquet in the Ches Leach Lounge.
