Douglas James Brooks
October 14, 1935 – March 12, 2023
It’s with sadness and fond memories that we say goodbye to our Dad, at the age of 87. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but grew up in Nova Scotia with his parents and four siblings. He eventually joined the Canadian military, working for CN, farming and many other occupations.
Dad had many interests, having raced chariot ponies when he was younger. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and could build just about anything you asked him to. In his later years, he spent many hours putting together birdhouses, planters and other items “just for something to do.” His love of fishing was always there, from the time he was young until the end. He spent as much time as he could volunteering at Chateau Providence in St. Brieux.
He and mom (Adeline) got married in 1965 and lived most of their lives in St. Brieux, until Mom passed away in 2015.
Our Dad could be tough at times, but he lived life on his own terms and did have a great sense of humour. Birthday cards exchanged in our family were never the sentimental kind. They always came with a twist, just like Dad.
He was predeceased by his father, Tom; mother, Edith (nee Dodds); sisters, Faye, Eileen, Beryl; brother, Robert; and wife, Adeline (nee Mohninger).
We’re going to miss him, Darren and Cheryl, along with many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and all his close friends. In lieu of any flowers, please feel free to make a donation in his memory to the Royal Canadian Legion. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, (306) 764-2727, Carla Jesso, Funeral Director, and Sarah Naytowhow.
