PACI cheer team ready to make noise at National competition

Over 100 of the country’s best high school cheerleading teams have gathered in Warman this weekend for a major competition, including the PACI Golden Bears.

Speaking with paNOW on Friday, Team Captain Mackenzie Belair said it’s a big deal to be at the Warman Cheer Classic.

“There’s so many different girls on the team so you get to interact with different people, just see the progress in the new girls who have never done anything like this before.”

The PACI Golden Bears are Prince Albert’s only competitive high school cheerleading squad. Belair explained there is a big difference between their sport and other team sports.

“You’re trusting each other with more than just a ball. You’re giving them your life because you are going in the air and you have to trust people holding you,” she said.

Coach Shea Fidyk, who has previous experience as Captain of the University of Saskatchewan team, only formed this team less than a year ago.

“I love it. It was my favourite sport growing up and it was where I made all my friends that have turned into my family and I really wanted to give the girls the same thing here.”

The event this weekend at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex is expected to attract up to 5,000 spectators, and is being live-streamed through warmancheerclassic.ca

The Warman Cheer Classic is Saskatchewan’s biggest cheerleading and dance competition, and largest Worlds Bid event.
