Gameday Preview

Raiders welcome Hurricanes to town for the final time this season

Mar 3, 2023 | 11:33 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders (25-29-3-0) are shooting for back-to-back wins on home ice tonight when they host the Lethbridge Hurricanes (31-21-3-3) at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Raiders were victors in their last matchup when they defeated the Red Deer Rebels 5-2 in their last matchup, improving them to 6-4-0-0 in their last ten games and 4-1-0-0 in their last five. Prince Albert is getting hot at the right time as the push to the playoffs is in full swing. Heading into tonight, the Raiders sit five points back of the Swift Current Broncos for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Hurricanes on the other hand have been trending downward as of late, posting four wins in their last ten games. However, the Hurricanes were victors in their latest game when they downed the Calgary Hitmen 4-3 back on Feb. 25. The win snapped a three-game skid that saw losses to Regina, Moose Jaw, and Kamloops. With that stretch, Lethbridge is 2-3-0-0 in their last five games.

Tonight’s matchup is the series finale between these clubs and their first meeting since Nov. 9 when the Hurricanes edged P.A. 2-1. Lethbridge currently leads the season series 2-1 with the Raiders lone win coming back on Oct. 5 when they won 3-0.

After the game, P.A. hits the road to have a date with the Warriors in Moose Jaw tomorrow night.

An updated look at the Eastern Conference standings heading into tonight.

Who to Watch

Veteran Keaton Sorensen put on a show against his hometown team in his last game, putting up a goal and a pair of assists against the Rebels. His three-point performance was the third time he achieved the feat in his past four games. He put up the same stat line against the Blades on Feb. 24 and had a trio of assists against Brandon the game before.

Forward Ryder Ritchie continues to turn heads in his rookie campaign where he posted another three points versus Red Deer. The Calgary product had an assist hat trick to boost him to 43 points (21G, 27A) this season, which also moves him into fifth in league scoring among rookies.

Winger Niall Crocker earned the game’s first star on Tuesday, scoring twice. The Delta, B.C. looks to continue his career year as he’s already posted a career-high of 28 points (15G, 13A) this season.
