Team Sask wins first-ever mixed curling match in Canada Winter Games history
Team Saskatchewan made history on Day 11 of the Canada Winter Games, held in P.E.I.
Team Sask won the first-ever Mixed Doubles Curling match played in Canada Winter Games history. Dylan Derksen, 17-year-old from Hague, and Melissa Rose Remeshylo, 16-year-old from Warman, beat Newfoundland 5-4 in the historic victory on Tuesday.
Female boxing events also debuted at the Canada Winter Games on Tuesdsay. Team Sask’s Alex MacKenzie in the 60 kg women’s event lost her bout. On the male side, Kaeden Hunter, 63.5 kg category, won his opening bout while Franklin Moo, 57 kg event, did not. Shay Khinochik in the 67 kg group will step into the ring on Wednesday.
After a rough opening night at the Canada Winter Games, Team Sask’s female hockey team was back in Summerside on Tuesday night to take on Quebec. The game was tied 2-2 after 40 minutes before Quebec scored the game-winner and added one into an empty net to win the game 4-2. Greta Henderson and Ella Wingert scored for Saskatchewan in the loss.
