‘Truly amazing’: P.A. woman bequests $800K gift to TeleMiracle

This year’s TeleMiracle raised over $5 million but one donation is catching the eyes of many in Saskatchewan.

Near the end of the annual Telethon on Sunday, an $800,000 donation was announced from the late Pauline Pawlyshyn of Prince Albert.

She passed away in April 2022 at the age of 102 and bequeathed the donation to the Kinsmen Foundation as per her will.

Born in 1919 on the family farm in Wakaw, Pawlyshyn had four brothers and one sister and attended high school in the Wakaw area.

She married Mike Pawlyshyn in 1947 and operated the Empire Grocery in Prince Albert for 39 years.

Carpet bowling was a favourite activity of Pawlyshyn’s and she travelled to different communities for competitions.

According to her obituary, Pawlyshyn was an avid gardener and very active until her death.

“She could be seen raking leaves, shovelling snow, walking to Wal-Mart for groceries, watering her garden with just a pail, baking bread every Saturday, washing clothes with a wringer washer, drying clothes on a clothesline. Truly amazing given her age and the fact that she did everything single-handedly and without modern conveniences,” the obituary said.

The $800,000 donation helped propel TeleMiracle to raise a total of $5,519,229 for the Kinsmen Foundation.
