First degree murder charge laid in Starblanket homicide

A second person has been arrested and is now facing a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Jeremy Starblanket in 2021.

Henry Ratt, 26, of Ahtahkakooop Cree Nation was in Prince Albert Provincial Court Thursday morning.

He was remanded into custody and will be back in court on March 16.

A second accused, Loretta Sakebow was arrested in July of 2021 and is still awaiting trial.

Starblanket’s body was found in a home on the 500 block of Fifth Street E. on March 20, 2021.

At the time, neighbours reported haring an explosion and some popping sounds followed by plumes of black smoke.

The explosion had blown the building off of its foundation and it then caught on fire.

Members with the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team assisted with Ratt’s arrest and Prince Albert Police said the investigation is still ongoing.
