Patrick Robert Peters

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Patrick “The Legend” Robert Peters, late of Surrey B.C formerly of Sturgeon Lake, SK on January 2nd, 2023, at the age of 62 years. Patrick was born in Prince Albert, SK on January 21st, 1960, to Robert Mirasty Sr. & Ina Ahenakew. Patrick was raised by his grandmother Catherine with traditional teachings in Sturgeon Lake FN and spoke Plains Cree. He attended Sawonak and West End Schools. He pursued his musical career during his youth with the gospel band, David’s Harp; and played in two rock bands called Blue Fantasy and Tri-Act. He married Shirley in 1982 and had his first son Brock. He completed one year of ITEP at the U of S. The following year, he relocated to Surrey in 1989 and met his lifelong partner, Shelly. They had two sons Jesse and Jordan. As a father, Patrick supported his sons in sports, education, and careers. Surrey, BC, was his home for the past 32 years where he thrived and worked in the construction trade with his sons while training them in all aspects of life. Most recently, he had the opportunity to work with all three of his sons. He was loved and well respected by everyone he ever met leaving a positive impact in people’s lives, imparting knowledge, and wisdom to those who witnessed how he carried himself and heard what he had to say. He set a perfect example of a strong leader and good role model for the youth in his community. He had a big heart and powerful voice and was not afraid of anything. He expressed himself through hard work, doing what he loved and putting his life experiences into songs that will live on through his music legacy. He also recorded songs with his sons. Patrick was a firm believer in Jesus Christ as his Savior which helped him through his life journey. He saw beyond peoples’ differences and saw the good in everybody. He loved everyone and kept in touch with his Saskatchewan family. Patrick will be lovingly remembered by his sons Brock Peters (Abbottsford, BC), Jesse Peters (Surrey, BC), & Jordan Peters (Surrey, BC), his grandchildren Jada Cardinal, Jasmine Cardinal, & Noah Williams (Chilliwack, BC); his lifelong partner Shelly Jackson (Surrey, BC); his siblings Eleanor (Rodney) Hegland, Leona (Joe) Munroe, Clayton Peters, Clinton Ahenakew, Kavia (Perry) Burns, Harold Peters Sr., Cheryl Ahenakew, Lorie (Rob)Whiteman, Calvert Ahenakew, Kelly (Irene) Mirasty, Loretta Henderson, & Rodney (Alyssa) Ballantyne; his cousin & siblings James Mirasty, Frank Mirasty, Pearl Mirasty, Samantha Naytowhow, Kevin Peters, & Melvin Peters; his uncles & aunts Violet Naytowhow, Violet Mirasty, Hilliard (Sandi) Mirasty, Lorne Peters, Lance Peters, & Elwood (Gladys) Peters; as well as numerous other family members. Patrick was predeceased by his father Robert Mirasty Sr.; his mother Ina (Dennis) Ahenakew; his brothers Robert (Bobby) Mirasty Jr., Charlton Ahenakew, & Claude Ahenakew; his maternal grandparents McKay & Catherine Peters; his paternal grandparents Angus & Mary Mirasty; & his uncles & aunts Pauline Royal, Jewel Littlecrow, Irvin (Priscilla) Peters Sr., Lena Peters, Louise Peters, Marlene Peters; (in infancy: Ella, Clifford, Joyce, Sylvia); Frank Joseph, Oliver Peters, Louis Peters, Roy Peters & Edgar Peters; Rose McCallum, Bertha Beatty, Pansy Mirasty, Leonard (Red) Mirasty. A Wake Service will be held on Saturday, January 21st, 2023, at 7:00 PM at Sturgeon Lake First Nation Community Center in Sturgeon Lake First Nation, SK. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 23rd, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Sturgeon Lake First Nation Community Center in Sturgeon Lake First Nation, SK. The Master of Ceremonies & Drum Song will be Rodney Ballantyne. The Elder Prayer will be read by Henry Felix. The Officiant will be Minister Marcel Carriere. The Pallbearers will be Michael Bird, Jesse Peters, Jordan Peters, Melvin Peters, Denzel Burns, & Kelvin Felix. Then Patrick will be cremated and laid to rest in BC.
